[Fingon] wore his long dark hair in great plaits braided with gold.

★ Memory:
A scene clearly witnessed from the eyes of a child old enough to speak yet still young enough to sit in his mother's lap. It begins with the mother sitting him down, and then a long sequence of her first undoing the braids on his head and then rebraiding them into a different and much more intricate hairdo. A conversation about the necessity of this and some related topics goes along with it, until the braids are done and the child hugs his mother and then wants to run, but gets caught before he can do so with the words that he needs to be dressed appropriately as well.

★ Learned:
- He used to wear his hair in many braids plaited with gold or golden colours, in different styles.
- His mother's look, behaviour etc. and that he loved her a lot.
- A rough idea/glimpse of the architecture and fashion of Tirion.
- That he sometimes had to attentend festivities wearing very nice looking and bothersome clothes.

[...] Then swords were drawn, and a bitter fight was fought upon the ships, and about the lamplit quays and piers of the Haven, and even upon the great arch of its gate. Thrice the people of Fëanor were driven back, and many were slain upon either side; but the vanguard of the Nodor were succoured by Fingon with the foremost of the host of Fingolfin, who coming up found a battle joined and their own kin falling, and rushed in before they knew rightly the cause of the quarrel; some thought indeed that the Teleri had sought to waylay the march of the Noldor at the bidding of the Valar.

Thus at last the Teleri were overcome, and a great part of their mariners that dwelt in Alqualondë were wickedly slain. For the Noldor were become fierce and desperate, and the Teleri had less strength, and were armed for the most part but with slender bows. Then the Noldor drew away their white ships and manned their oars as best their might, and rowed them north along the coast.

★ Memory
It begins as the first Teler dies by Fingon's sword, and many more follow; some for having attacked him, some for having attacked or fought another Noldo, and this way he makes his way through the battle, seeking to first guide his own people and only as a second task find his cousins. He fights valiantly and but one can doubt the fairness of it by how he is better armed than a number of those who come at him. In the end there is much blood on his hands when he finally meets up with the others; Maedhros and other son's of Fëanor as well as his uncle first, but then also other relatives that have fought in the battle. There is also a brief encounter with his father, though only the most necessary words are exchanged, and then they start to gather their people to move northwards, and take tally of their fallen.

★ Learned:

- So. He killed a lot of people. That were armed worse than him. To steal their ships.
- Maitimo was in on this.
- As was apparently a significant part of his family. And also Fingon's. We seem to be somehow related. Funny how small the world is.
- He seems to have been some kind of leading figure. Royals?
- He also seems to have been a reasonably good sword-fighter.
- Names: Alqualondë. Noldor, Teleri. (Maka)laurë, Fëanor, Maitimo, Artanis, Tyelko(rmo).

[Fingolfin] desired now as never before to come by some way to Middle-earth, and meet Fëanor again. And [...] they were mighty people, the elder children undying of Eru Ilúvatar, but new-come from the Blessed Realm, and not yet weary with the weariness of Earth. The fire of their hearts was young, [...] led by Fingolfin and his sons, and by Finrod and Galadriel [...]. And finding no other way they endured at last the terror of the Helcaraxë and the cruel hills of ice. Few of the deeds of the Noldor thereafter surpassed that desperate crossing in hadihood or woe. There Elenwë the wife of Tugon was lost, and many others perished also.

★ Memory:
This memory spans ...a very long time, though it is impossible to tell how long, since all of it takes place under the cold, starry sky. It is a treck of many people, led by Findekáno and his father Nolofinwé, across an seemingly endless field of ice; crossing over the waters of an ocean, but the ice below them isn't in one piece anymore. The other parts of their family, siblings and cousins and the niece as well as the accompanying spouse are sometimes with them, sometimes not, all leading their own compartments of the travelling people. It is a harsh way, and they lose horses and luggage and people to the grinding ice across which they are walking: Sudden openings caused by a movement of the ground beneath one's feet, ice floes suddenly tilting and letting all that is on them slide into the icy waters, ice simply breaking... Nobody is safe, and among others, Findekáno's younger brother Turukáno's wife Elenwë perishes on the ice, causing her widower to forever feel nothing but hatred for Fëanáro and his sons.

★ Learned:
- They crossed from one continent to the other, and the one that they were headed for was Middle-earth.
- That they crossed this way was somehow the fault of Fëanáro and his sons, whom "Turu" now hates with a passion because this killed his wife. He himself used to be friends with Maitimo, and his sister Irissë was friends with Tyelkormo and Curufinwë. But they all betrayed them.
- well there sure was no sun or moon at all where he's from?????

★ Elves glow in the dark; they also glow in the eyes of someone who is near death or otherwise close to the realm of shadows. The light is somewhat like star-or moonlight rather than sunlight.

The reason for this is that elven fëa is much stronger and larger than that of other races - they have too much soul for their bodies, so to speak, and it's leaking. They don't lose anything, it doesn't leave them, but they are somewhat clad in it. And in the dark, that shows as them glowing. Have a 6'2" nightlight.

Headcanon based on Fingon's uncle having married a woman of royal Telerin blood, and their family having been located in the Telerin capital of Alqualondë for a while; Fingon being best friends with one of their sons (and his brother being best friends with another of their sons, and his mother best friends with the Telerin wife), and it being likely that at least one of his other cousins studied there for a while. And also the fact that there were only so many cities in Valinor that one could travel to.

★Memory:
A very long memory: It spans a couple of weeks of what resembles a summer retreat near Alqualondë, a stately elven harbour city most well known for its swan boats and musical inhabitants: Long walks by the seaside, evenings and nights out under the starry skies, fun with friends and family, some studying at the local libraries or talking with people about his studies there, meeting royal and noble and more common residents of the city, a few trips out onto the water, wandering through city and surrounding countryside, etc etc.

★Learned:
- That's a pretty nice city that I attacked in that other memory.
- Meeting the parts of his family that the other memories haven't covered yet, excluding Nerdanel and whatever family they had in Valmar, and a few Maia.
- Knowledge of Alqualondë, Telerin (and some Noldorin) culture and politics.
- What the sky above Arda looks like, it's constellations and stars.
- Telperion and Laurelin, the trees that gave light to the world instead of sun and moon.
- Context for the hair braids as well as how important hair is to elves.

Headcanon based on general fantasy ideas about elves and braiding (coordinated with Maedhros-mun)

★ Knowledge of and the ability to perform all elven braiding techniques and create all patterns, as well as read and "write" their meaning: Includes house braids, warrior braids, healer braids, etc. Among the house braids, he's the best at the Finwean house braids.

It was with a lessened host that Fingolfin set foot at last upon the Outer Lands. Small love for Fëanor or his sons [one of whom is Maitimo] had those that marched at last behind him, and blew their trumpets in Meddle-earth at the first rising of the Moon.

[After they were destroyed by Ungoliath, there was one last fruit left of both of the trees that had given light to Arda: Telperion's last fruit was named Isil the Sheen by the Vanyar and Rána, the Wayward, by the Noldor, and given to the Maia Tilion. The last fruit of Laurelin was named Anar the Fire-golden by the Vanyar and Vása, the Heart of Fire, by the Noldor, and given to the Maia Arien, who far surpassed Tilion in might.] Isil was first wrought and made ready, and first rose into the realm of the stars, and was the elder of the new lights, as was Telperion of the Trees. Then for a while the world had moonlight [...]; and even as the Moon rose above the darkness in the west, Fingolfin let blow his silver trumpets and began his march into Middle-earth, and the shadows of his host went long and black before them.

★ Memory:
A direct continuation of memory #3. After crossing the Helcaraxë, cold and miserable and having lost many of their people, with basically everyone cursing Fëanor and his sons, the host that is led by Fingolfin and his heir (=Fingon) finally leaves the grinding ice and arrives on land again. It's still cold and everything, but at least the ground isn't treacherous anymore - and the dark night, that was only lit by stars, turns brighter as a light rises in the east. THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IT IS aside from the colour reminding them of Telperion. But they take it as a good sign, blow their trumpets and and just march on for a while, going down the coast.

★ Learned:
- So his world did have a moon, it just wasn't around before this memory. No word about the sun yet, though.
- They lost a lot of people while crossing that ice.
- He was seriously angry and bitter towards Maitimo by the end of it.

[Fingon is on the back of a giant eagle, in front of a tall, steep cliff to which Maedhros is bound with an iron shackle by his right wrist.] But Fingon could not release the hell-wrought bond upon [Maedhros's] wrist nor sever it, nor draw it from the stone. Again therefore in his pain Maedhros begged that he would slay him; but Fingon cut off his hand above the wrist, and Thorondor [the eagle] bore them back to Mithrim.

★ Memory:
The memory begins on the back of a giant eagle, with Fingon facing an almost naked and emaciated Maedhros who still bears the signs of having been tortured and is fixed to the upper part of a high, steep cliff by an iron shackle around his right wrist. He has with himself a harp, a bow and arrows, and a knife. Fingon tries for a good long while to get the iron bond that ties Maedhros to the rock off or to loosen it enough to pull the other elf's hand out of it, all the while aware that they are in enemy territory. After a while, Maedhros asks him repeatedly to end his suffering and just kill him if he cannot save him. At this point, Fingon takes his knife and with a good amount of expertise amputates his hand so that he can pull his arm out of the shackle and pull his friend onto the eagle (note: It is my headcanon that Fingon has done a number of amputations while crossing the Helcaraxë, so he has a solide idea of how to do it).

After this, the eagle flies them across dark, black mountains and a wide plain, over another range of mountains and then down towards a camp by a lake - on the other end of the lake, a second camp can be seen. The memory ends before they land.

★ Learned:
- so this is why Maitimo lacks a hand
- giant eagles?
- SUN. This is the first memory in which Fingon sees the sun of his world.
- apparently I used to have some medical knowledge

Then Fëanor swore a terrible oath. Straightway his seven sons leaped to his side and each took the selfsame oath; and red as blood shone their drawn swords in the glare of the torches.

Elda or Maia or Aftercomer,
Man yet unborn upon Middle-earth,
neither law, nor love, nor league of swords,
dread nor danger, not Doom itself,
shall defend him from Fëanor [read: Fëanáro], and Fëanor's kin [read: Fëanáro's kin],
whoso hideth or hoardeth, or in hand taketh,
dfinding, keepeth or afar casteth
a Silmaril. This wear we all:
death we will deal him ere Day's ending,
woe unto world's end! Our word hear thou,
Eru Allfather! To the everlasting
Darkness doom us if our deed faileth.
On the holy mountain hear in witness
and our vow remember, Manwë and Varda!"
Thus spoke [Maedhros] and Maglor, and [Celegorm], Curufin and [Caranthir], [Amrod] and [Amras], princes of the Noldor. But by that name none should swear and oath, good or evil, nor in anger call upon such witness, and many quailed to hear the fell words. For so sworn, food or evil, an oath may not be broken, and it shall pursue oathkeeper and oathbreaker to the world's end.

★ Memory:
The whole scene is witnessed by Fingon as a bystander; he is a part of the crowd surrounding this, only a few feet away from Fëanor at this point, so he has an unobscured view of him. Near him stand Fingolfin his father, Turgon his brother, Finarfin his uncle and Finrod and Galadriel, Finarfin's children. Directly next to him stand Aegnor and Angrod, also Finarfin's children.

The crowd around them is excited and there is an atmosphere of revolution around them. The atmosphere takes a drop and a terrified gasp when the oath starts, that spreads slowly until even the people in the back have realized what is going on. Fingon's own feelings go from being excited for departure and new things to a lot of shock and pain when Fëanor's words register, and the feeling increases massively when Maedhros leaps up to repeat the oath, and then his brothers.

★ Learned:
- Maitimo didn't lie when he said that he has an issue.
- Also not like he thought that his uncle was entirely sane, but gosh so cray
- Eru Allfather, and that his name should not really be spoken
- Likewise that using the Valar as witnesses is a really dumb move
- This scene also happened in the darkness, so it must be before the Eagle thing but after the childhood/youth memories.
- The realization that Angrod and Aegnor seem to have been of special importance to him.
